Congrats First Place - Slinger Bob Jeff & Stacey Trujillo - $7,000 Pot! 〰️
Saturday - Main event with a $7,000 pot
Bob Jeff & Stacey Trujillo were too much to handle! Bob and Stacey were matched in a blind draw for the Slough Slingers’ 3rd Annual Horseshoe Tournament. Stacey traveled from New Mexico and is part of the NaNeelzhiin Horseshoe Club. Slinger Bob is a Slough Slinger.
Slinger Bob and Stacey won $4,100 and had no losses. Rovene Nosie and Rodney W. did their best, but could not stop Slinger Bob and Stacey. Rovene and Rodney placed 2nd and finished with $2,100.
Coming in 3rd was Slough Sliinger, Kai-ba Jeff (a young teenager) and Kali Trujillo. Kali is a young woman from New Mexica and Stacey’s daughter. Kai-ba and Kali split $700.
Rounding out 4th place was another amazing young teen, Hastiin Begaye, who was partnered with an incredible elder from Southern California, Arturo “The Bull” Rodriguez. Hastiin and The Bull received their entry fee back.
Friday - Bring Your Partner
Teaming up together from Arizona were Brandon Goklish and Brandon Tenijeth Sr., who came out on top with only one loss.
Not giving up was Bobby Bartell and Nathan Williams who gave the Arizona duo their only loss. Bobby and Nathan ended up in second place out of 54 teams as they could not knock out Arizona’s finest. Goklish, Tenijieth Sr., Bartell and Williams put on a nail biting finale.
How it started - the family
The Jeff family and their uncles, aunties, cousins, elders, and kids of all ages all started playing in their backyards at the Santa Rosa Rancheria, Lemoore CA. Everyone would “sling” the shoes from 40 feet. Slinging from 40 feet was a family tradition that was passed on for generations. Laughter, competition, great food, and amazing family time was spent pitching shoes. The Slough Slingers were raised watching Big Blue and Uncle Ned Jeff hit the circuit competing and winning tournaments while making new friends. Slough Slingers was the perfect name for the pitchers. They love to “sling shoes”, and they have a peaceful Slough that runs along the Santa Rosa Rancheria that is deeply spiritual and meaningful to these pitchers who deeply love their family and community.
The Slough Slingers launched their first tournament 09-17-2022 and blew up the horseshoe pitching world. The Slough Slingers wanted pitchers from far and near to come experience their family tradition built on mutual love for the game.
The tournament is a blind draw, pitching doubles to be the first team to score 21 points for a win. Two losses equals elimination. All are welcome to pitch from 40 feet.
